Our roots trace back to the 1850s, starting with a small Black Baptist group led by &#8220;Judge&#8221; Thompson. In 1876, South Water Street Baptist Church was founded, which later became First Baptist. We merged with Delta Park Baptist Church to form Avenue Road Baptist Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our current building was dedicated in 1984, and in 2008, we expanded to add more space and improve accessibility.
